The Hurt We Give

Janiya Bryan

Shots ring out in the middle of the night. Some people are afraid of the dark. I now understand their fright, because most people don’t just get shot in the broad daylight. An innocent man lying
in his bed, his family clueless, not knowing the next morning he’d be dead.

The news spreads around, it’s repeating in my head, “He’s dead, he’s dead.” Shots fired, they said. Taken too early, not meant to stay too long. It’s the story of an innocent man, he’s been
done wrong. So put down the guns, let’s end the fight, help another person to live another night. No more lives held by death due to our love of guns and hatred of strife. Let’s end gun violence, and to all a good night.
