My That Day

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was on the bus on my way to my aunt’s house. I was really happy to be going home because my nephews were back from their grandma’s house. When I finally arrived at my aunt’s house, I went inside and asked my cousin where my aunt was at, because I didn’t see her car outside. He said that she was out. So, we started playing his game and in the middle of playing the game he said something bad had happened, but when I asked him what had happened he just said that my mom would tell me when I get home. I just thought that he was playing because we always play around like that and I thought he was trying to distract me from winning the game. So, a while later my aunt finally arrived and beeped the horn for me to come out. As I was walking to the car, the closer I got, I could tell that my aunt had been crying, so I asked her what was wrong. She said get in the car and that my mom was going to tell me. On the way to my house I was looking out the window thinking to myself, like, what had happened that was so bad that no one would tell me?

We finally arrived at my house. As we were pulling up in the yard, I saw the police and my sister’s baby daddy in the front yard. When I got out of the car I saw my sister’s baby daddy crying and talking to the police. So, I just ran in the house and into all my sisters’ rooms, they all were crying and told me to go to my mom’s room. So, I did. When I got in her room she wiped her face and told me to sit down. After I sat down she told me that my nephew had passed away in his sleep. My mom tried to give me a hug but in that moment, I just wanted to be alone. I went to my room, grabbed my stuffed dog, lay down and cried. After a while, I went to sleep and when I woke up, I was hoping that it was all a dream, but it wasn’t.
